A horrid murder committed upon the person of Thomas Kidderminster at the White-Horse Inn in Chelmsford in the county of Essex, in the month of April, 1654: discovery of the body nine years after, for which Moses Drayne, an hostler in the said inn, was executed at Brentwood in the same county, in the year 1667, being thirteen years after the commission of the said murder : whose arraignment, conviction, and attainder appears by the records of the circuit of that year.

This I beheld or dreamt it in a dream. There spread before me a large gallows, constructed from the wood pile behind the blacksmith's shed. My head slipped into the noose. As the floor dropped out below me I heard a loud snap that could have only been my neck. My eyes fluttered to be met by the closing of a simple pauper's coffin lid and all was darkness until He came. The wood splinted as he lifted me up by the hangman's noose still dangling around my neck. His red eyes became my comfort as his gibberous animal slobbering released my soul and animated the horrific creature you see before you. Pardon me, I am hideous and I know I smell badly of rotting grain.

I returned and continued to operate my brewing operation in Essex, this prospered for several decades until unwise labor rights were granted to the workers.

This worked well until local brewers banded together to drive me out of Essex. I then left to find my fortune in Chicago.
The Lager Beer Riot took place in Chicago, Illinois in 1855 after Mayor Levi Boone, great-nephew of Daniel Boone, proposed an ordinance which would close taverns on Sundays and raise the cost of a liquor license from $50 per year to $300 quarterly. This move was seen as targeting German immigrants. On April 21, after several tavern-owners were arrested for selling beer on Sunday, protesters clashed with police near the Cook County Court House. Waves of angry immigrants stormed the downtown area and the mayor ordered the swing bridges opened to stop further waves of protestors from crossing the river. This left some trapped on the bridges, police then fired shots at protesters stuck on the Clark Street Bridge over the Chicago River. Rumors flew throughout the city that some of the protesters were killed, although there is no evidence to support this. The following year, after Boone was turned out of office, the prohibition was repealed.

My involvement in the Beer Lager Riots had left my blood hot, so I rested where fire would never disturb me. Hook and Ladder #4, commissioned after the riots, became my haven and resting place until late. This is now the Wrigleyville Firestation.

Jobe Webster gifted Moses the Goose Island Brewery, which has since been named Drayne Brewery.
