Jobe Webster
"The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."
~Fredrick Douglass
Once Appearing an un-prepossessing Academic, Jobe rather quickly shed this veneer as soon as he opens his mouth. Mr. Webster's factional choice is clear to any who hear him, and he frequents such establishments as the Ambassador which he inherited after the death of Guiteau, and The Hole in the Wall, is unaligned though he seems to rotate what word he uses for it; Autark, Anarchist, Libertarian, Personal Sovereign, and the like. Every time Mr. Webster meets in Elysia his philosophy of freedom has varied to some extent, holding steady in his belief that good business is un-compelled business.
Of late, Jobe has shed the academic appearance, bearing a sword at his hip in the presence of other kindred. Since the disappearance or death of Desdemona, A transformation has come over the man. Where once he was outspoken on most topics, now their are a few he won't touch. The presence of his adopted Daughter, the Gangrel Mishka, seems to soothe his untrusting demeanor to a more sociable form.
Political Accomplishments
Jobe made a name for himself in the 1990s for persuading the Regents and Masters of Elysium to reinterpret Laws to allow weapons to be carried within the boundaries of Elysium.
In the year 2005 (anyone got the date?), Webster fought a duel with Ursos over a few trifling insults and won against the up and coming Carthian when he so famously lost his cool and gave in to his beast.
Following the disasters of Hurricane Katarina and the Earthquakes in Pakistan, Jobe organized Helios and Luna. These organizations collected good will donations from the world over and invested them in the rebuilding of these shattered lands. It didn't hurt his standing among the Ventrue that all of the monies were invested into local members of that family, to oversee their usage
In spring of 2006 Jobe has leveraged the right of investigation from the hands of the Regents, and into the Hands of the Priscus Council
It was a move he would come to regret, with Ursos struggling to interpret that as the right of the Priscus to appoint a Sheriff, staging several acts of violence so as to create a need for a position he intended to fill with one of his own Carthian Partisans.
When the wave of Praxis claims began, Jobe was caught between pragmatic concern for his people, and his ideology that the government which governs best, governs least. After much consideration and preparation, He backed he the absent Prince, through supporting his regents rights to make declarations in his name, in his absence.
With the return of the Prince, Webster stuck to his pro-Farragut stance, and gained the title of Primogen. But with the prince's ill treatment of several other kindred of the city, and his attempt as dissolving the prisci power (Jobe's own power base) Webster seemed to be increasingly disillusioned with the prince, and his apparent inconsistancy.
In March of 2007, amidst whispers of Ventrue Insanity, Jobe declared for his own power structure. Designed along the lines of Farragut's Regents, though with different individuals filling those roles.
Jobe is a relatively new Kindred in the City, having been embraced here in his home town, in the middle of the 1980s. Mr. Webster is Owner and Head of Touch Medical Supply and is generally looking for new business partners, and new opportunities to invest with his fellow Kindred.
Following the death of his romantic interest Desdemona Jobe appears to have undergone a shift in demeanor, becoming far more outwardly emotional. Some question if this is a normal reaction, or the beginning of the inevitable Ventrue Madness.
Jobe is also Priscus of the Ventrue
Jobe Webster: Unaligned, Ventrue.
Somethings that Jobe's gotten in trouble for saying...
Organization, Huh? The Invictus claim to be the Best, the Carthians claim to be Fair, The Ordo Dracul claim to be Transcendent, The Circle claim to be in touch with the Source, The Sanctum claims to be Holy. I disagree, at their best each of them is these things, but at their worst each of them are arbitrary Tyrants. Tyranny requires others to surrender their freedom, submitting themselves piecemeal to slavery. Slavery which in all forms I declare eternal enimnity against.
—Jobe Webster
If your safety is more important then your freedom, no one can save you from the chains.
—Jobe Webster
