Clan Gangrel
"Hark! Hark to the wind!
‘Tis the night, legends say,
When the souls come back
From the far away,
The dead, forgotten this
Many a day."
To view the Gangrel of the White City as savage beasts would be a grave mistake. Though they are close to their savage beats within, they are noble savage beasts. And they will emphasize the *noble* savage beast. Gangrel are social animals. Look at monkeys, apes, gorillas or wolves. These animals have clear social rules for leadership, mating, and even feeding. Being animal-like does not automatically make one a snarling beast.
A Gangrel Story of Creation
The Earth we come from. From dirt we are made. The waters that fill us. All filled with water for water is life. Breath, the air we breathe stripped from us. Warmth, the fire of life snuffed. We come from the Earth. We drink of the blood, a poor substitute for water, air, and fire, but it will do.
Clan History
Before World War Two, Chicago had an informal Master of Elysium for its cemetaries and Parks. In these earlier decades of the twentieth century, a French Gangrel looked after these sites; he was known as Adalbert and was said to have been a cemetary groundskeeper in life as well. Adalbert has not been seen since the time of the second World War.
In 2005, the social life of the city's Kindred brought forth the ancient titles of the Prisci. Originally, the Gangrel Priscus came to a tie in December between Alexander Crane and Paul Harvest. They established a protocol concerning who would be THE Priscus for purposes of Prisci meetings in the event of co-Prisci. If one was there and the other wasn’t, then the first would sit and vice-a-versa. Should both be present, they'd decide civilly between themselves agreeing that Rock-Paper-Scissors would be both fast and quick to settle the matter. Gangrel now accept Jonathan Brinkley, a.k.a. Dragon Jon as their de facto leader. None challenge his primacy.
Clan Territory
The Cook County Forest Preserve, outside the borders of Chicago, was not claimed by any Kindred or regency. Seeing a potential void in late 2006, the Gangrel worked (under the supervision of Paul Harvest, now in self-imposed exile) worked to bring park officials and police officers under their sway. On March 8 2007, Harvest formally declared Gangrel claim to this territory. He further claimed that the Laws of the Prince of Chicago would be enforced in Gangrel Territory. After considerable ensnarement in spiritual matters revolving around these forested areas, Jonathan Brinkley assumed leadership of the clan. Jon is still busy in matters of hauntings in these districts. On April 18 2008, Jon declared Domain over parts of the SW Forest Preserves. The rest remain city districts under the care and supervision of other clan members.
