Ed X. Edison - Prince of Chicago
I can't believe she bought it
She got too close and she caught it
Had a point, but she forgot it
When you skip steps on the way up
The gaps have a way of catchin' up
And you can't cover that with make-up
You're gonna fall behind me
You're gonna cry and beg for mercy
Cause you're not ready baby...
And you got nothin' on me
Now that I'm getting to know her
Part of me wants to show her
Who she's really screwing over
Cause she's got nothin' real
Taking everything she can steal
Just like it was her last meal
You're gonna fall behind me
You're gonna cry and beg for mercy
Cause you're not ready baby...
And you got nothin on me.
Fall Behind Me - The Donnas
Ed X. Edison: if there was a single word to describe him, it would be - hungry. Hungry for change, hungry for action, hungry for decisions. Ed is not one to sit idly by. He prefers to take quick and decisive action, but not before making sure things will work out like he planned.
Not a stranger to Chicago, Ed is part of the Carthian Movement supporting the front man Ursos Arctos. He can often be seen at his side making sure that orders are followed and duties are assigned to the best person for the job. Contact with the younger crowds of the Lakeview neighborhood and DePaul University keeps him abreast of most information. Because of this, Ed tends to not back down from an intellectual discussion, giving his take and knowledge of the subject, even if it's not wanted. He wants to make sure people know that he's smart, and will put them in their place if he suspects that they aren't.
At gatherings, Ed can be seen making the rounds, getting to know the Kindred of Chicago, especially newcomers in order to size them up. He can be heard joking with others, making sure that they are enjoying themselves. He is also seen frequently with Angélique, despite Ursos' many heedings of 'the doorknob that everyone's had a turn with.' There's something about her primal desires that piques Ed's interests, besides her position of Harpy and the inherent tendency to know what's what in Kindred society.
They say that the old ways are the best ways, but Ed firmly disagrees with that statement. Why is it that Prince Farragut holds all the power and influence in Chicago although he has not been seen in decades? If things are ever going to get done, then there has to be a reformation, and Ed firmly believes that the Carthian Movement is capable to doing just that. Now more than ever Ed sees that in order to make any kind of change, one has to work within the system and reform from the inside out.
That's precisely why Ed threw his hat into the ring, quite literally (just ask Featherby), when it was announced there was to be an election for one of the two vacant seats on Farragut's advisory council, an election strongly urged by Ursos Arctos. On the night of the election, it seemed that Ed might have been a shoe-in, but unfortunately a tremendous debacle occurred at one of the polling places that jeopardized his chances. After much finger wagging and blaming, the results for the disputed ballot box came in: Mendoza - three, Ed - two. Despite this close defeat, Ed has become determined to run again in the next election held in a few months time.
Recent events, however, have changed the scenery a bit. Featherby, held responsible for burning down the Holy Cross Cathedral in Champaign-Urbana, was stripped of his title of Regent, and as such, Farragut has decided that an election be held immediately at the next gathering after the new year. To the polls.
A few months prior Farragut had divided the regency of the North into parcels to be patrolled and governed by three Carthians in the city: Ursos Arctos, Maxwell Fernandez and Ed X. Edison. Unfortunately, Ursos had taken a leave to California for some operation and Maxwell had all but disappeared, so Ed stepped up to the plate and negotiated with Farragut that Ed himself would take responsibility of that area. Months later, after successful uneventful evenings in that regency and proving that he is capable of maintaining the peace, Ed was appointed Regent of the North.
The most recent events have culminated themselves into one big boiling pot of bile, and most everyone felt the splash effect. On a recent visit to Champaign-Urbana, Ursos had planned to assist the Carthians of that domain, but he felt it necessary to strike someone before those plans could be carried out, the Hound of Champaign-Urbana and prominent member of the Lancea Sanctum, Father Tao. Tao proceeded to defend himself and in the process put Ursos Acrtos into torpor. The domain's Archon and well-known Carthian, Eddie "Sway" Pryor, was given orders by the Council to return Ursos' torpored body to Prince Farragut in Chicago. After a meeting of few words, Sway returned Ursos' corpse to the hands of Chicago, which was then carted off by Angélique to take care of "family matters." In any case, the era of Ursos Arctos is over, and the Carthian Movement can start anew, and of course, if Ed can say anything about it, he will definitely consider himself a guiding force for the restructuring of the Movement.
Change is always happening, and even for some, that change can be more sweeping. As of the last gathering of the month of July, Edison has made the announcement that he is severing his ties with the Carthians and forging his alliance with that of the Invictus. Of course there will be the inevitable backlash, but he is well prepared for that.
Of course when change is running around, it's always best to make sure that others are informed. Edison had traveled down to the Champaign-Urbana domain to make sure the Carthians knew that he was no longer affiliated with them. They did not take the news as well as expected, but at least they were civil enough that only one member attacked him; the damage was minimal at best. Over the next couple of months, Farragut pulled away from society until finally he ascended, becoming one with the city. Whether his presence is detected in the city itself remains to be seen, but with him no longer around, there is a vacuum of power, and two stepped up to the plate to claim it: Alexander Crane and Edison.
The debate between the two was heated but remained at a standstill, everyone wanting to know the platform of both of them. The next gathering, their platforms were clear. While Edison had taken to making an appearance at the gathering, Crane resorted to strong arm tactics, instigating a riot in the Southwest Regency of the Lancea Sanctum. It's rumored that he offered to stop the riot in exchange for the support of the Lancea Sanctum. After a cooperative effort to calm things down, Crane was called to the gathering in order for questioning, but a fight broke out ending with Crane changing into a white rhino and crashing out the window of the Drake hotel suite on the 27th floor. Because of this, support for Crane quickly dropped. As a result, Edison is now Prince of Chicago.
