No one is sure when Bela first appeared in Chicago, but it's well known that he spent a number of years in Naperville. The first memory anyone has of him in Chicago is in 1996, although he claims to have been around, but "lying low and all" for a number of years prior. Most believe that he is at least indirectly responsible for the Lupine attack that year and fled to Chicago to escape retribution by the surviving Kindred.

Although Bela has an extensive set of contacts among low-level drug dealers, gang members, teen occultists and bums and can occasionally use these to obtain surprisingly useful information, he can't do this reliably enough to be of any use. However, this does not stop him from offering information to anyone who will listen.

In the decade since his arrival, Bela has sought acceptance from any conenant that will have him. He's not particular and has a surprising knowledge of each covenant and their workings - much more than most Kindred from outside that covenant would know, but much less than even the most basic initiate would. As such, Kindred have come to him in the past to find out what others are doing and what others know of their own activity. The answers they get range in usefulness from straight-out lies (i.e. being told what they want to hear) to revelations of startling breaches of security. It's well known however that any contact with Bela will result in Bela tailing that Kindred and going so far to appear at their Haven when they wake. Needless to say, only the foolish or desperate seek him out for counsul.
